Center for Integrative Design & Expanding Media (CIDEM)
Brief Description
The Center for Integrative Design & Expanding Media (CIDEM) is a transdisciplinary ecosystem for collaboration, research, and design. This community is dedicated to advancing the study and practice of design and media through research, education, and community engagement.
As the focal point for research, teaching and learning about design and digital media at the University of Rochester, CIDEM is committed to fostering a true sense of belonging so that we can create and grow a diverse, equitable, and inclusive transdisciplinary ecosystem for collaboration.
The goal of integrated design is to break down silos between disciplines, encourage communication and collaboration, streamline processes, and ultimately create more holistic and innovative solutions. Integrated design allows for considering diverse perspectives early in the research process, ultimately leading to better outcomes. The Center for Integrative Design & Expanding Media naturalizes digital tools across all disciplines. The concept of expanded media involves integrating or utilizing various media forms, technologies, or unconventional methods either as embedded elements or as the core focus of the research itself.
The Center for Integrative Design & Expanded Media focuses on three primary pillars: Research, Community Engagement & Teaching and Learning.
